“Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.” - 1 Timothy 4:12
Youth Group & Catechesis
St. Alphonsus Liguori Youth Ministry serves the youth of our parish from grades 7-12. We help to form more than 200 teens every year in their faith and the way they express that faith through prayer, service, catechesis, and social opportunities. 7th and 8th grade youth enroll in our Middle School youth program. 9th and 10th graders register for our 2-year preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. 11th and 12th graders are involved with youth and retreat leadership and deeper spiritual and experiential opportunities.?All St. Alphonsus Liguori youth programs gather on Sunday nights for dinner in Weitzel Hall at 6:15 pm (following the 5:00 pm Mass) and meet in their separate groups from 7:00-8:15 pm.
Confirmation Preparation
All youth in 9th and 10th grade are involved with an intentional and active preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a two-year preparation program with aspects of catechesis, prayer, service, and discipleship. Each candidate will learn about their faith and how they will live that faith in the world. Candidates are confirmed in the spring of their 10th grade year.
Retreat Experiences
All youth involved with St. Alphonsus Liguori Youth Ministry have plentiful opportunities to experience retreats during the course of their catechesis and formation. St. Alphonsus Liguori hosts an Advent Middle School retreat and a Lenten High School retreat each year. All Confirmation students have the opportunity to retreat with their fellow candidates. And all youth are able to take advantage of the various Carmel Deanery retreat opportunities, including Destination Jesus, The Call, the Senior Retreat, and the Junior Retreat.
Youth Pilgrimages
During the course of a youth’s six years of involvement with the youth ministry program, he/she has countless opportunities to make pilgrimages all over the state, country, and world to share their Catholic faith. These pilgrimages include the NDVision high school conference, the March for Life in Washington, D.C., the yearly summer Mission Trip, the biennial National Catholic Youth Conference, World Youth Day (when they have turned 18 years old), and more!
Serving the Church, Community, and World
St. Alphonsus Liguori Youth Ministry is passionately directed toward Christian service to all of our neighbors. This includes trips to serve food at the Lord’s Pantry in downtown Indianapolis, volunteering at Special Olympics sport events, Days of Caring that attend to the needs of our parishioners, fundraising and participating in the Relay For Life, and much more.
Volunteering with St. Alphonsus Liguori Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry of St. Alphonsus Liguori would not be able to provide the social and spiritual opportunities that it does were it not for the loving service offered by adults from every corner of our parish. Our youth ministry is a function of the parish, not a function of the individual Director of Youth Ministry. If you feel called to share your God-given gifts with our beautiful youth, please contact Paul Sifuentes at the parish office. Whether you would like to give of yourself for a day or for a year, there is no gift too great or too small to be used by God for the benefit of His children! We need you – God bless you!
If you would like your child to experience their faith more deeply, receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, and meet other Catholic youth, or if you would like to volunteer with the youth ministry program, please contact the parish office at 873-2885.
