Pastorate Council Messages Leading Up to the 3 Year Plan
6/9/22
Fellow Parishioners:
When the survey went out last year asking for your thoughts on a three-year plan for St. Alphonsus Liguori, one of the issues that came up repeatedly was the sound system in the church — “fix it!” you said. That seemed so urgent we didn’t feel we could wait for the plan to be finished, so we “fixed it” and will continue adjusting as needed. As a result, you will not see sound system upgrades as part of the three-year plan which you will receive this summer. But there are plenty of other issues in the plan that you feel are important, and we will need your help to address those issues once the plan is unveiled.

Fellow Parishioners:
Communication, communication, communication! That’s what you told us, in your survey responses, is needed to maintain and improve many aspects of life at St. Alphonsus Liguori. We heard you, and this message is part of that plan. Plus, there is much more regarding communication in the final three-year plan, which you will receive in the mail this summer. When you have it in hand, we will work together to fine-tune how, together with your help, we can implement it.

Fellow Parishioners:
One of the main themes we noted while reading through the responses of last year’s survey was that our parishioners have a deep love of the Mass and the Eucharist. While stark differences in preferences in things like music were evident, the uniting factor we saw was your devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The three-year plan, which you will receive in the mail next month, reflects that love and gives us goals to know, love, and serve Christ even more deeply. As the Feast of Corpus Christi and the opening of the National Eucharistic Revival approaches, pray with us that our parish and our parishioners will be Christ’s light to those around us.

Fellow Parishioners:
Community and fellowship are integral to human life. Many of you told us that during the pandemic lock-downs, you felt disconnected at best and devastated at worst without the support of the parish community and the ability to gather for fellowship and celebrate the sacraments. Many expressed that they felt there was no place for them in our parish, or even in the Church. Sympathizing with you, we made an effort to include a focus on fostering community and friendships in our parish in the three-year plan. At the simplest level, each of us needs to be that new friend reaching out to others! We’ll talk more about how you can help once you have the plan in your mailbox.

Fellow Parishioners:
The parish survey conducted last year to help establish a three-year plan for St. Alphonsus Liguori was returned by 695 people, a number that was, frankly, off the charts for this kind of endeavor. And what was particularly interesting was that 58.8% of those who answered the survey had been a member of the parish for 11 years or longer…and 30.1% had been members for 21 years or more. More survey statistics and summaries will be available later this summer on the parish website. Your collective responses helped shape the three-year plan, which will come to your mailbox this summer. Then, we will need your help to make our plan a reality.

Fellow Parishioners:
Two of the things that stood out in the surveys we conducted a year ago to help us put together a three-year plan for St. Alphonsus Liguori were the need for evangelization training and efforts and the need for a future facility on campus that might include a gym and other spaces for events and meetings. Both are addressed in our finished three-year plan, and other components include liturgy and Eucharistic devotion, parish fellowship, supportive and inclusive culture, communication and outreach. You will find the plan in your mailbox shortly. Then, the work begins!
