2023 Candidates Catechumens

  I was born in a Muslim country to a Buddhist family (on grandfather's side), a Protestant mother, and attended a Hindu school. In the midst of my interfaith experiences, I am happy to share I feel the most at home with the Catholic faith after having been a member of Saint Alphonsus' parish for the past 8 years. I feel God's presence the most here, and want to develop a closer relationship with Him.

  Hi, I'm Hayes Zickler and I'm 10 years old. I am a 4th grader at Boone Meadow Elementary. I love school, spending time with friends/family and all things sports; especially basketball!
  
  I am excited to become a Catholic and to continue to follow Jesus.
  I have the support of my mom, dad, older brother (Park) and older sister (Charlie) during my journey to become Catholic.

  Hello, I am Alec Martinez. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, but graduated from Indiana University and have become a true Hoosier! I was raised Catholic and am finally completing my Confirmation thanks to some friends I met in college who were very strong in their Catholic faith and helped me grow in mine.
- Justin & Isabella Clark
  
  Justin Clark, Isabella, and their daughters Betty (age 3) and Bonnie (age 1) are new to St. Alphonsus as of this summer. Justin was raised Fundamental Baptist his whole life and Isabella was raised in various protestant churches. Justin met Officer Stiles recently and started looking into the Catholic Faith. After learning the truth of the Catholic Church, Justin and Isabella were ready to join. And thus have begun RCIA. They love the community here and have felt so welcomed by all of the parishioners at St. Alphonsus.
- Israel & Amanda Perez
  
  Israel was born in Holguin, Cuba in 1977. He spent several years studying art and painting at Jose Antonio Echeverria, a school in downtown Holguin. He immigrated to the United States in 1995 and graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1998. He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving onboard both the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and the USS Carl Vinson (CVN- 70) as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class. After 8 years of military service, he left the Navy to pursue a degree in Network Security. He currently works as a Systems Administrator for the Department of Defense.
  
  Amanda was born in Lebanon, IN in 1981. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1999 and enlisted in the United States Navy that same year. She served onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class and Training Petty Officer. She left the Navy after 5 years of service to pursue a career in nursing. She worked at the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Institute in Norfolk, VA for several years and currently works as an Adverse Drug Event Nurse Clinician at a specialty pharmacy.
  
  Israel and Amanda were married in February 2004 in Norfolk, VA, where they lived until relocating to Indiana in 2013. They currently live in Whitestown. They have two sons together; Daniel, who is serving onboard the USS Colorado (SSN-788), and Christian, who is a junior at Lebanon High School. They enjoy spending time together with family, exploring new places, and watching movies.
  
  After attending different Protestant denominations, they are happy to have finally found themselves at Alphonsus Ligouri. They are excited to have found a wonderful group of people who share their biblical and spiritual views. Attending RCIA has been a fantastic experience and they are so grateful for both the knowledge and support the Church provides for those looking to join their faith. They are both excitedly looking forward to the next step in their journey!
- Mathias Soto Silva
  
  Mathias Eduardo Soto Silva was born on January 18, 2012 in Lima, Peru. He is a very intelligent, responsible and mature child. He and his family arrived in the United States in May, 2022, in search of a better future. Mathias is in 6th grade at Zionsville Middle school. He plays the violin, really likes to read, and his favorite course is mathematics. He was the best student of the week on several occasions at his previous school and now has very good comments from his teachers at his new school. Mathias wants to be a doctor in the future and write a book.
