It's evident there is construction happening on campus; however, throughout the month of July parishioners will also notice another type of construction inside the narthex. A special building display has been setup by the parish's Habitat for Humanity ministry. The display helps share about homes built for families in need thanks to the help of parishioners throughout the years. This summer members from St. Alphonsus Liguori are once again teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of Boone County to continue their work and complete homes for the "Apostles Build" and "Wounded Warrior" projects.
These projects are supported by generous gifts to cover building costs as well as the many hours of dedicated work by teams of volunteers. Additional material donations are also provided by local companies.
How can you help? Saint Alphonsus will be having a second collection at Masses on the weekend of July 21 and 22 to help offer a gift for these community projects from our parish family. Additionally, parishioners may also sign up to volunteer at a project site. Already, men and women are working hard on the Apostles Build including the parish's WINGS group who are serving lunches to those working on construction.
Read more about these two summer projects below. Those wishing to volunteer on building a home may sign up at HabitatBooneCounty.org. Volunteer shifts include morning, afternoon or all day options.
Be sure and check out the "construction" display inside the narthex to see more facts and photos about this outreach ministry. May God continue to bless the work of those serving as they live their faith while bringing hope and charity to others.
The Apostles Build is a home project completed by volunteers throughout local church communities. This year's project will complete a home for a family in Lebanon, Ind. St. Alphonsus parishioners have already been hard at work as the project moves into its fourth week of construction. Last year, the Apostles Build completed a new home for a family in Fayette, Ind. All project responsibilities including project costs and hard working volunteers are shared among the "Apostle churches."
The Wounded Warriors project is set to begin next week for a home project in Advance, Ind. This is Habitat for Humanity of Boone County's first year working with the Homes for Wounded Warriors Program. Projects for this program are specifically designed to offer homes for seriously wounded warriors as a way to improve their quality of life.
Busy this summer? Habitat for Humanity will be taking on another project this fall for a third home in Boone County. Keep visiting their website or contact St. Alphonsus' ministry to learn more as information becomes available.
