While Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation and while there is no requirement for the clergy and faithful to receive the imposition of ashes, it is rightly observed as a celebration of high importance, and many will surely wish to participate even amid the current difficulties.
The priest will announce the words
"Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return" to all present. The priest, deacon, and lay ministers will sprinkle ashes on the heads of those who come forward and will not say anything.
