April was a busy time at the parish as we witnessed the beginning of the construction process for facility renovations. Driveway entrances changed, bricks were pulled from exteriors, classrooms were stripped of ceiling tiles, storage closets were packed up and framework was installed for what will be new facility space.
The patience of everyone is sincerely appreciated as parishioners, families and ministry volunteers work around these changes to the campus and the usage of buildings.
Parish Office entrance temporarily relocated: The most recent alteration to building accessibility was the relocating of the main entrance of the Parish Office. As construction crews move into the Mary garden to work on the expansion for Parish Hall, the front door to the parish offices will be difficult to access. Therefore, the front entrance has been moved to the northeast corner of the building using the single door that faces the church and leads into the St. Robert room. The door is marked from the outside while interior signs direct and guide guests to the front desk. This temporary entrance is for the duration of the construction process until the buildings will reopen with their new facades.
What will these new entrances look like? All campus buildings (excluding the church) will receive new entrances that will be well marked to easily identify facilities. They will also have an architectural style to coordinate with the current doors of the church and Parish Hall. The current religious education and current parish office buildings will have main entrances that face the church so that families and guests can easily determine which building they are heading toward.
The Parish Hall will keep its main entrance; however, a more appealing secondary entrance will be installed on the back of the building facing the church. This will allow people to better access the facility for any gatherings following Mass or other event at the church. Weitzel Hall will receive a new main entrance on the north side of the building that faces the same circular driveway as Parish Hall's main entrance.
In addition to the building names being visibly placed on the sides of buildings, the campus will also receive directional signage to help guide traffic and avoid the constant searching of specific facilities by guests.
These new designs are only a fraction of the many ways the facility renovations will provide a more friendly and welcoming experience at Saint Alphonsus Liguori. Until then, please pardon the dusty parking lots, be safe by avoiding work areas, and remember to enter the parish office building using the door facing the church.
